Your progress and private notes stay on your device.

Learn to Daven is made by Short Form Media Co. This policy covers the Learn to Daven iPhone and Android apps and the website at learntodaven.app. The apps have no accounts or advertising. Your prayer preferences, progress and private notes are stored locally. The apps can connect to download content, optional recordings and translation models. Android uses Google's ML Kit translation SDK, which collects diagnostics as described below. The website offers separate optional signups for product updates and the Android launch email.

The app

What stays on your device

The app stores the following in its own local storage on your device:

• Which sessions you have completed and when, your streak, sparks and badges
• Which sessions you have bookmarked and any private notes you write
• Your optional prayer wording, davening experience, Hebrew reading level and nusach choices
• Your appearance, text size, reading mode, reminder time and tour settings

The app does not upload these stored values to us, attach them to signup links or send them to an AI service. Your prayer wording choice controls the text shown in the app; it is not a required statement about your identity.

All four learning choices are optional and can be changed in Settings. The learning profile offers a choose-later option for experience, Hebrew reading and nusach. Choosing Show both for now clears a men-only or women-only wording preference. Deleting the app removes its local data. On iPhone, if you use iCloud device backup, that data may be included in your own Apple backup, which we cannot read. The Android app disables Android backup for its app data.

Content updates and internet requests

The lessons and siddur text ship inside the app and work offline. When connected, the app checks our Supabase content server for newer lessons and downloads them if available. It can also fetch a published sponsor image. These are read-only requests; they do not include your prayer wording, experience, Hebrew reading level, nusach, private notes or completion history.

Internet requests expose ordinary connection information, including an IP address and the requested URL, to the service handling them. Our content and audio hosts, Supabase and Vercel, may retain operational request logs under their own policies. The raw learning preferences remain in the app's local storage.

Reminders

The optional daily reminder is scheduled locally by your device at the time you choose, one reminder per lesson day and never on Shabbos or Yom Tov. Nothing is sent to a server and no push tokens are created.

Read aloud and optional audio downloads

Listen can use recordings you choose to download from our static audio host on Vercel. Opening the audio download options may fetch the catalog. Audio files are downloaded after you choose a download option, stored on your device and then played locally. You can remove downloaded packs in Settings. Installed device voices remain an on-device fallback when a recording is unavailable.

We generate the published recordings in advance from our authored lesson text. Using Listen does not send your text or learning profile to a speech-generation provider. Audio requests use fixed catalog and file URLs, without your prayer wording, experience, Hebrew reading level or nusach values. The particular files requested depend on the units and reading version you choose, so a host can see which content was requested.

Optional teaching translation

On supported iPhones, you can ask Apple's Translation framework to translate an English lesson teaching into Spanish, French or Portuguese. Translation runs on the device. Apple may ask to download the required language models first and manages those downloads. The app supplies the authored teaching, not your private notes or learning preferences. It does not send that text to a third-party translation API.

On Android, optional translation uses Google's ML Kit to translate authored English teaching into Spanish, French or Portuguese on-device. You choose whether to download language models and can remove downloaded target-language models in Settings. The Hebrew prayer text stays unchanged. Private notes, progress and prayer preferences are not supplied to the translator.

Android translation SDK diagnostics

Google documents that ML Kit collects device and app information, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics, API configuration, input and output sizes, feature events and error codes for diagnostics and usage analytics. Translation diagnostics also include the configured source and destination languages. The SDK uses Firebase remote configuration and installation services for diagnostics. These SDK practices are separate from the local translation of lesson text and from the prayer preferences stored by our app.

Google states that the SDK data described in its disclosure is encrypted in transit with HTTPS and is not transferred to third parties. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure and Google's Privacy Policy.

What the app does not do

• No account, email or sign in is ever required
• No advertising software or app-operated remote crash reporter; Android ML Kit diagnostics are described above
• No tracking across apps or websites, and no advertising identifier
• No access to your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone
• No upload or sale of your stored learning preferences, progress or private notes

Optional updates by email

An upcoming update adds an optional email signup during the Welcome tour. If you choose it, the app sends your email address and consent version to our website signup service, along with a label identifying the signup screen. We store those details, the consent wording and the signup date in Supabase to email you Learn to Daven updates, including new lessons and features. No prayer preferences, progress, private notes or device identifier are included. You can skip this step and use the app without giving an email address. To unsubscribe and have your signup removed, write to the contact address below or reply to an update.

TestFlight and Google Play

If you use the beta through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may share crash logs and any feedback you choose to send with us, under Apple's own TestFlight terms. We use them only to fix the app. Google Play also handles tester accounts, installations and store diagnostics under Google's own policies.

The beta app also checks Apple's public App Store listing before offering a switch to the public version. Apple receives ordinary connection information, such as your IP address; the request includes no learning preferences or private notes. App Store installations do not make this check.

The website

You can separately choose Learn to Daven product updates, including new lessons and features, or one email when the Android app is available. Each signup has its own optional consent box. We store your email address, signup date, page/source label, consent version and accepted consent wording in Supabase, and use that signup only for the purpose you chose. Earlier path, iPhone and Android launch signups are not automatically added to general updates or another list. We do not sell signup information. To unsubscribe and have your signup removed, write to the address below or reply to an email. The app does not attach learning preferences to these signups. Website requests also expose IP addresses and requested pages to Vercel, which may retain operational logs under its own policies.

Website analytics

We use cookie-free Vercel Web Analytics to understand visits to our marketing pages, App Store link clicks and successful website signups. We send only fixed marketing page paths, with query strings and fragments removed. Our two custom events contain only a fixed button placement or signup purpose; they never contain your email, form contents or app learning data. We do not measure individual lesson pages or create our own persistent visitor identifier.

Vercel also processes ordinary request information and reports aggregated statistics such as referring sites, approximate geography, browser and device type. Vercel says its visitor hash expires after 24 hours and does not identify you across different sites or days. This is separate from storing an email signup you explicitly request. See Vercel's Web Analytics privacy documentation. App Store links include a fixed website campaign label for Apple's aggregate campaign reporting, with no email or unique visitor value added.

Children

The app can be used without an account or submitting personal information. The local-storage and optional-download behavior described above applies to users of every age.

Changes

If our handling of app data changes, we will update this page before the change takes effect and describe relevant app changes in the release notes.
